What is the Junior Academy of Science?
The Alamo Junior Academy of Science (AJAS) is an annual meeting and science competition. Students (grades 6-12) from across the Alamo region conduct research during the school year and present results at AJAS through both spoken and written word.
Who can participate?
AJAS is for students (grades 6-12). Public, Private, Parochial, Magnet, and Home schools may enter AJAS. Independent entries are accepted if a student’s school does not have a program on their campus.

AJAS Dates:
- January 24, 2026 :Project submission due date
- January 31, 2026: In person at Nimitz Middle School 5426 Blanco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216
- February 7, 2026: Awards will be released by Video
- Format: Give a 12-minute oral presentation of a science project to two category judges.
- Format: Give a 12-minute oral presentation of a science project to two category judges.
- Due January 24, 2026:
- Paper no more than 20 pp. (Google doc, Word doc, or PowerPoint)
- Presentation (Google slides)
- Judged on oral and written presentations
