\"\"Sister Joseph Marie Armer of Incarnate Word College, now the University of the Incarnate Word, in San Antonio, Texas founded the Alamo Regional Academy of Science and Engineering (ARASE) in 1956.\u00a0 She held the first Alamo Regional Science & Engineering Fair in the Spring of 1957.\u00a0 For over SIXTY years ARASE has been encouraging students to present their scientific research to the public at our annual Junior Academy of Science competition and at Science and Engineering Fair. Students utilize the scientific process in conducting a STEM experiment and defending the results before members of the scientific community. Parents and Educators experience the satisfaction of mentoring students as they explore new challenges.<\/p>

Above all, the fair shows that science is as exciting as a young mind seeking discovery, and as important as solving the mysteries of our physical world.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>

We cover thirty-two surrounding\u00a0counties<\/strong><\/a> with over 700 students in grades six through twelve choosing from fourteen different categories in which to compete at our regional science fair. ARASE will advance Junior and Senior Division projects to the Texas Science & Engineering Fair. Also, seven Senior Division projects qualify to compete at the international level science fair known as the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF). The Regeneron ISEF is considered the world series of science fairs. Our mission is to advance public understanding and appreciation of science, especially among young people.<\/p>

Develop a life-long interest in science and engineering for middle and high school students.
– Public Involvement<\/strong>
Encourage students, educators, and the general public to take a pro-active interest in the application of the scientific method.
– Foster Good Science<\/strong>
Foster principles of good science, ethical research, humane treatment of animals, and compliance with standards and regulations.
– Provide Opportunities<\/strong>
Provide opportunities for the scientific professional community to interact and develop research skills with students.
– Public Recognition<\/strong>
